"Waiting On" Wednesday #6

"Waiting on" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking the Spine that spotlights an upcoming release that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pick:

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
By: Jennifer E. Smith
Publisher: Poppy
Release Date: January 2, 2012

From Goodreads:

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. She’s stuck at JFK, late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s in seat 18B. Hadley’s in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.

I am swooning over this description; doesn’t it just sound delicious? In my mind it seems kind of like a combination between Nick and Norah’s Infinte Playlist and Anna and the French Kiss, both of which I absolutely adore.

I also love that it only takes place over 24 hours. To be completely honest I’m not normally a huge fan of love at first sight stories; I like my romance to have buildup and development, but I think this has so much potential that I’m not even letting that bother me. I’m totally prepared to love this novel.

Why is January so far away??

  2. "Why is January so far away??" GOOD QUESTION! I so cannot wait to read this. I prefer my romances to be slowly built too, but I think this will be awesome. I haven't read any books where they spend the entire novel in 'real time' so to speak. Like, not skipping ahead a few days or a week or something. But we're seeing every hour and I think it will be an intesne 24 hours!

  3. This one sounds really cute. I usually read PR & UF, but I've been looking for some contemp to try. This sounds like it might be a good one!

  5. Tiffany - I love the cover too! I'm a big fan of black and white with a splash of one other color. The cover reminds me a lot of this picture, which I've always loved.

Brodie - Hi! Every time I see something from you I look guiltily at the VA books sitting on my shelf, haha. They're next on my TBR list though, I promise. As soon as I finish my Harry Potter reread. :D Also, I hadn't even though about the fact that we'll get to see every little thing unfold in real time. But I guess a full-length novel covering only 24 hours will leave room for all those wonderful little details. I can't wait!

Marla - If you're looking for good contemporary romance, I'd definitely try Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. It is sooooo good, I can't recommend it highly enough. My review for it should be up in the next couple of days and it's pretty much just full of excited squeeing and gushing in ALL CAPS with lots of exclamation points. :P

Anti-Drug Reads - Thanks so much for stopping by! I'll definitely check out your WoW, heading over now! :)

  17. Ooh, this one sounds so wonderful. I love reading about 2012 picks! I haven't read Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist so I don't know that part of your comparison... but have you seen the movie Before Sunrise? This reminds me of it but in teenage form & as a book. Delightful :). Thanks for sharing!
