"Waiting On" Wednesday #5: The Scorpio Races

"Waiting on" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking the Spine that spotlights an upcoming release that we're eagerly anticipating.

My WoW pick for this week:

The Scorpio Races
By: Maggie Stiefvater
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Release Date: October 18, 2011

The only thing that Amazon and Goodreads say about this book is this:

With her trademark lyricism, Maggie Stiefvater turns to a new world, where a pair are swept up in a daring, dangerous race across a cliff – with more than just their lives at stake should they lose.

But thanks to stalking some fellow book blogs, I’ve managed to also find this, although I’m not sure of the original source:

It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line.

Some riders live.
Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition – the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

I haven’t ever read anything by Maggie Stiefvater before (although I have Shiver and Linger on my shelf waiting for me), but I’m dying to read this anyway. It just sounds so cool and different. I’m really looking forward to seeing what she does with it. And I love the cover!

What books are you waiting on this week?

  10. My utmost favorite of her books is Ballad (sequel to Lament, which is also good, but not as brilliant).

    This looks great too!
